Version 0.2.9

Clones the current tab's address and history into a new window when the New Window command is used (and optionally into a new tab when the New Tab command is used).

Note: If you're looking for on demand tab duplication then the Duplicate Tab add-on might be more suitable.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. How do I configure Clone Window to clone tabs?

Go to Tools->Add-ons->Extensions->Clone Window->Options, then set the New Tab command to Clone Tab.

@adrian

Could you give me more details about what exactly the problem is with CW in Fx 2.0, thanks?

#162 Lim-Dul

Yes, yes, yes! Clone Window for FF3! I simply can't live without this extension since no other of the tab browsing plugins even though they're much larger gives the option to automatically open both cloned tabs and windows!

P.S. You should add Clone Window to the Mozilla addons site.

Thanks for updating this extension for FF3! It's a must have for me or else I was going to have to not upgrade!

#164 lowspeed

this is seriously one of the reasons i didn't use firefox as much.... now its definitely more usable for me.

Thank you so much for updating this extension for firefox 3! I can't live without it. I agree w/ Lim-Dul, you should add your extensions to the Mozilla addons site.

Again...you are a life saver!

I just installed Fx3 and immediately had that "ahhh crap" moment when I saw that Clone Window wasn't compatible. Started to freak out a little when I didn't see it listed at addons.mozilla.org. Thanks for updating this extremely useful add-on. I keep wondering why this isn't an option right in the core of the program. So many people use this add-on.

#167 Rick

Thank you for updating this for FF3, I use this all the time.
One thing: I was wondering if for cloned tabs, the focus could stay where it is and not automatically go to the address bar. It's understandable for blank tabs, but if you're cloning an existing tab, typically you do not need to enter a new url. I don't know if this has been addressed, but I noticed a 4-year-old post here by Leif asking about the same thing. Thanks.

#168 Steve

Just installed it on ff3 but it seems that calling new tabs (ctrl-t) does not invoke this. new window works fine...strange.

#169 Tony

Thank [insert the deity of your choice] clone window has been updated for FF3! Wow, it seems like a simple, little thing -- but FF sure is annoying without this. I still can't believe that FireFox doesn't have this as a built-in option.

Anyway, I just wanted to express my appreciation for this plug-in. You're a regular superhero. Just think of the millions of productive (or maybe non-productive hours) you're saving people with your work. In fact, this plug-in probably reduces greenhouse gasses! It's a Green Plug-in for FF!

Okay, maybe I'm going overboard now, but in all seriousness, I'm giddy with excitement that this plug-in has been updated.

You rock!

Seriously glad you updated this - I've been trying with tab mix plus, which is some serious bloatware that for some reason keeps breaking. Fantastic work, thanks!

#171 Robert

Thanks for updating Clone Window to FF3. I was stuck on FF2 until this came out.

#172 Sharon

This worked beautifully when I open up a new window, but, when i open up a new tab it gives m a blank page. Isn't it suppose to duplicate a page in a new tab as well? Isn't that what is meant by "Clones the current tab's address and history into a new window when the New Window command is used >>and optionally into a new tab when the New Tab command is used.<<?

#173 Pike

@Sharon

I think you missed the word "optionally"! :) Go to Tools->Add-ons->Extensions select Clone Window and click Options.

#174 David

I installed this extension so that new windows open up with a blank tab instead of my homepage tabs, like in Firefox 2. It works beautifully. Thank you so much!

#175 Peter

It is useful to open a new window in your home page too. Why don't you allow the option to choose between a clone and the home page, instead of forcing the user to stick with one or the other? (After trying it, I have disabled Clone Window, because the home page is the thing I need the most.) Example: let Ctrl-N go to the home page as usual, and let a new toolbar icon invoke Clone Window.

#176 Robin

So... FF 3.1 please? :)

#177 Pike

@Robin

It's working for me in 3.1 beta 1, what specific problem are you having?

#178 Frederic

Bonjour from a new user! I was actually looking for a Clone Window functionnality that would clone all tabs in a window. This plugin doesn't seem to do that, right? Could you consider such an enhancement? or would you know of another plugin that does it? Thanks!

#179 Pike

@Frederic

That's correct, that feature isn't part of Clone Window, unfortunately I'm not aware of any extensions that do that. :(

#180 Nirvana

Great job
