Install Create Shortcut 0.3.6

Description

Implements the Netscape Navigator 4 Create Shortcut menu item in Firefox. To create a shortcut to the current page bring up the context menu (usually done by right-clicking) and choose Create Shortcut. Selecting the menu item displays a dialog box that allows the creation of a shortcut to the current page/link on your desktop.

Note: This extension is currently for Microsoft Windows only, see the Deskcut extension for a cross-platform alternative.

  • Added a Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) locale, contributed by Fernando Pereira Silveira.
  • Added a German (de-DE) locale, contributed by Patrick Ruh.

Hi,

@Pike

Sorry to take so long to get back to you. When I posted above (#110), I'd had the problem I described several times right after installing Create Shortcut. Then it didn't occur for a long time. Today, it happened again, and I remembered that you'd asked for an example. Here it is:

@tyro52

Yeah, I suppose a shortcut can't be made when playing a full-screen video, but 99% of the time people are playing an embedded video in which case a shortcut can still be created by right-clicking outside of the video.

Anyway thanks for clarifying, I can see your point now. I'm still wary of adding entries to the File menu though since many people don't like extensions to modify the main menus.

Hi, Pike.

In regards to post #110, #121, & #122, maybe you could give an option/setting in Create Shortcut's options to allow one to have an additional way of using Create Shortcut by placing a "Create Shortcut" command on the "Tools" menu.

Many Firefox Add-ons either automatically or optionally include various options and functionality on the Tools menu. By giving one an option to add a "Create Shortcut" command on the Tools menu, they don't have to turn that on, but can if they want/need to.

However, before making any such change to the Create Shortcut add-on, you might consider the upcoming changes to Firefox 4.0 (currently being labeled as 3.7 Alpha 5) and how the menus might change or be accessed.

-Jeff
