Gobd,

All extensions here are compatible with both 0.8 and 0.9, I keep meaning to update the main page to say that but haven't gotten round to it yet.

Great Extension. Thanks.

#23 Jasongraphix Friday, 11th June 2004

Working great with .9, thanks for keeping it simple - this extension REALLY ought to be listed on the mozilla extensions page - couldn't live without it.

#24 Surreal Wednesday, 16th June 2004

Yeah, works great in .9 and with the all in one gestures.
<3 for Pike

(Accidentally posted about the all in one gestures on the session saver extention, oops.)

Oh what a pity!
This excellent extension doesn't seem to work in Firefox 0.9.
It made fox hanging when restarting after installing the ext.
I sure hope this problem will be fixed in the near future.

#26 Pike Thursday, 17th June 2004

driehoek,

This works in Firefox 0.9, if you're seeing the "Finalizing extensions" window then you're probably seeing a Firefox 0.9 bug. Start Firefox in safe mode (on Windows there is an entry in the Start Menu to do this, on other platforms use the -safe-mode switch) and uninstall Clone Window, then restart in normal mode and try to install again.

If the "hang" is something else please let me have more details.

#27 driehoek Thursday, 17th June 2004

It is indeed the "Finalizing extensions" window I'm getting. I had the same with the "Web Developer 0.8" extension, although it is listed as 0.9-compatible on update.mozilla.org

Undoing installation in safe mode doesn't seem to work either.

The only thing that does the trick is making a backup of the folder "C:\Documents and Settings\<your login name>\Application Data\Mozilla" before applying any changes. Then put it back when things went wrong.
This approach preserves extensions, themes and settings.

Nice extension, was also using with 0.8. Very strange that its not listed in the FF 0.9 extension list. Good work and thanks.

#29 Marshall Saturday, 19th June 2004

I'd like to translate this plugin in my language (italian).
What I have to do?

#30 Pike Saturday, 19th June 2004

Marshall,

Download the XPI file and open it with a zip program, inside you'll find a file called clonewindow.jar, open that with your zip program too and you'll find a folder called locale/en-US, this contains two files, clonewindowSettings.dtd and contents.rdf.

Copy these into a new folder called locale/it-IT, edit the contents.rdf in this new folder to replace all occurences of en-US with it-IT and then translate the file called clonewindowSettings.dtd into Italian.

Finally edit the file called install.rdf in the xpi to add a new section under the en-US section, like this:

<em:locale>locale/it-IT/clonewindow/</em:locale>

Now zip it all up again.

If you have trouble with any of this, just translate the clonewindowSettings.dtd file and send it to me and I'll deal with the rest of the changes.

Finally had the time to try out comment #26.
Lo and behold! It works!

Does the Firefox team know about the .9-bug ?

Anyway, thanks a lot, Pike. Extremely useful extension!

#32 Pike Wednesday, 23rd June 2004

driehoek,

We're still trying to pin down all the causes of the "Finishing Extensions" bug, but yeah a lot of them have been reported to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org.

Focus issues!

I use this extension to make Ctrl-T duplicate the current tab w/ history. It's great.

But it's really really annoying that the focus gets set to the address bar when I do this. The focus should end up on the window so I can interact w/ it.

It makes sense for the focus to move to the address bar if I'm opening a blank tab, but not a duplicated tab.

#34 Jason Tuesday, 29th June 2004

I can't get this to work for some reason. I have FF 0.9 but when I right click and select new folder a blank folder opens up. What am I doing wrong? I tried doing the sequence in #6 put I don't have an extensions to the left tab after options. I have general, privacy, web features, downloads and advanced. Help Please.

#35 Jason Tuesday, 29th June 2004

Ok I think I figured it out. I went to the options from the tools>extensions>clone window (right click)>options. From there I can change the drop down box.

Now it clones a window when I use CTRL+T or file open new tab.

Is there a way you can do it with the mouse by right clicking on the tabs and selecting NEW TAB? Having it clone that way would be MUCH easier and MUCH more seamless. Is there a way to do that now or is it something that you will have to implement later?

#36 Pike Tuesday, 29th June 2004

Jason,

I never got around to adding on-demand tab cloning, however Twanno has made an extension loosely based on CW that does, you can get it here:

It is amazing how I have been living in darkness... and using IE all these years. Today I installed FireFox... and I wanted bigger Google Search -field and window cloning, when new tab/window is opened. Little searching and everything is now OK. Thanks for the great extension.

#38 Noah Friday, 9th July 2004

Hi Pike!

Got a suggestion for ya. Rather, something I find missing.
Whenever a window is cloned (awesomely might I add) information in text boxes and the like [especially when you are at a forum and you've entered something in the Reply box and you clone the window, you receive the cloned window minus what you've entered] are not copied over. I have grown very used to this in IE.

Also, this is a little off-topic. But how can I change Firefox's association of the F6 key. Because I find myself used to hitting F4 (IE) if I want to focus on the address bar. Any way to change that? I assume diving into about:config.

Great extension by the way!

#39 Pike Friday, 9th July 2004

Noah,

That's definitely something I'll look into when I get a chance.

As for rebinding the keys, you could try this extension (I haven't tried it myself though):

Thank you so much for considering it - Please keep us up to date the second you begin your investigation. I'm serious!
I really am very interested to hear on any progress you'll be making on this extension.

And, I just knew asking the creator of a couple great extensions was the right way to go when in search of another.
Thanks!
