This extension is awesome. It resolves one of the only functionalities I missed from Internet Explorer.

#43 Scott Thursday, 22nd July 2004

It didn't work for me at first either, until I closed and restarted all browser windows (0.9.2).

#44 Scott Thursday, 22nd July 2004

Oh, and duh, thanks for this fantastic tool. I would be very sad without it ;-)

#45 KRiZBi Friday, 30th July 2004

Firefox 0.9.2 PL, extension installed ok :)
And I have same problem as Mika:

---ERRORMSG BEGIN (translated from polish, hope correctly ;)
XML parsind error: undefined unit
location: chrome://clonewindow/content/clonewindowSetting.xul
Line 7, column 1

<dialogid ="clonewindowSettings"
^
---ERRORMSG END

Any ideas ? I can't live without this feature !!!

The "New Tab" setting doesn't save state. In 0.2.2 of Clone Window and Firefox 0.9.2, If I set "New Tab" to "Cloned Tab," things work as expected (great, actually). But if I kill firefox and restart it, the tab cloning behavior goes back to default.

@Mika & KRiZBi

Are you using translated versions of Firefox? If you are you're probably suffering from Bug 247907 (http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=247907).

@scotto

Do your other settings get reset (e.g. your homepage or the window cloning setting) or is it just the tab cloning setting?

#48 KRiZBi Monday, 2nd August 2004

scotto:
Yes, I'm using polish edition of Firefox 0.9.2 from firefox.pl site, Clone Window works, it clones new windows but no new tabs. This error shows when I try enter CW's config to enable new tab clonning (note for author: it's disabled by deault - why ?). Is there any solution for this bug you wrote except installing english version of firefox ? Can I update my browser for en-US locale ? Or is there any XML/INI/etc file that keeps CW config and which I can edit manually to enable tab clonnig ?

#49 KRiZBi Monday, 2nd August 2004

blah... sorry, my reply above was for Pike not scotto ;)

#50 Pike Monday, 2nd August 2004

@KRiZBi

It's disabled by default because most people dislike it, you can manually change it by following these instructions:

1. Enter about:config into the address bar.
2. Right-click on the page that loads and goto New->Integer.
3. In the first box that appears type: clonewindow.new_tab_type
4. In the second box that appears type: 3

#51 KRiZBi Monday, 2nd August 2004

Pike: it works, thanks a lot :)

#52 Kristi Saturday, 13th November 2004

does not work for me for FF1.0 Am I doing something wrong?
tia!!!
Kristi

#53 Simon Lacoste-Julien Sunday, 14th November 2004

Worked fine for me with FireFox 1.0.

#54 Pike Sunday, 14th November 2004

@Kristi

It works for me in 1.0. Make sure it's not disabled, goto Tools->Extensions and check. Even if it shows as enabled you could try disabling it (right-click then press Disable) then re-enbling it, then restart Firefox, that sometimes does the trick.

Hey there, Clone Window is a really great extension! They should include this with Firefox and make it default behaviour, because many expect it from IE.

I have a suggestion for a new option, if that's OK...

What would be amazing, is if you could DRAG a tab off of the tab bar (either drop it on the main window, or out of the browser entirely? Whichever's easiest to implement), and have it Clone Window that tab, and also (optionally?) close the original tab.

Many times I have tons of tabs open, and realize that one of the tabs "doesn't belong" with the rest, and would benefit from having its own Window. If you could just drag the tab away from the others and have it sprout its own Clone Window, that would be perfect.

(Perhaps you could collaborate with the people doing MiniT, since they are already doing work with tab dragging: http://www.v2studio.com/k/moz/)

Anyway just an idea, keep up the good work. :)

YIPPPPEEEEE, this is exactly what I was looking for.

I agree with Brian's statement above, this should be the default behavior in Firefox because people are used to this in IE.

#57 Gary Sunday, 12th December 2004

This isn't compatible with 1.0 yet.

#58 Pike Sunday, 12th December 2004

@Gary

It works for me in 1.0.

#59 Aaron Wednesday, 15th December 2004

This is great, thanks. Been looking for something like this!

#60 Chris Friday, 17th December 2004

This is a terrific extension. It should really be part of Firefox's base functionality.

I've been using this with 1.0 for about two weeks without any problems.
