@Martin
Possibly but I don't have any plans to do that at the moment.
@RenegadeX
It's sort of a long standing oversight. Originally this extension could only clone windows, when I added the tab cloning feature I mirrored the window opening code. So the more obscure ways of opening a tab (which don't have a window-opening equivalent) weren't covered. You might want to try Duplicate Tab if this bothers you:
Thanks for doing this! It's just about the only thing I was missing when moving from IE.
I'm curious: I've been using Twanno's "Duplicate Tab" (http://twanno.mozdev.org) for almost a year but ran across this extension today, which seems from the description to do pretty much the same thing. I'd like to hear from users who have used both: which do you prefer, and why?
@beerslayer
The two extensions are pretty similiar (Duplicate Tab originally used code from Clone Window, I don't know if it still does) but they do different jobs. CW is designed as a migration tool for IE users (to mimic IE's Ctrl-N behaviour) while Duplicate Tab allows a user to duplicate a tab/window whenever they want.
So if I'm already using Duplicate Tab and it seems to be doing what I want, would there be any point to installing Clone Window? Would I gain any functionality that Duplicate Tab doesn't have?
@beerslayer
If you're happy with Duplicate Tab I can't see any advantage in switching to Clone Window.
I've just downloaded this. I definitately like it. It feels like this should be standard!
I'm interested in creating an extension that allows users to connect to a wiki in which each permanent page on the web is mirrored. To do this I need to access the URL in the address bar. It looks like your code might do this. I was wondering if I could see the source code for this extension?
I'm just starting writing extensions so apologies if I'm asking something daft.
@Barnaby
Please feel free to look at the source code, though I'm not sure the code is appropriate for your needs (it uses session history). Most Firefox extensions (including Clone Window) are interpreted JavaScript, you can see the source simply by downloading the XPI and unzipping it, then unzipping the JAR inside the XPI.

Hi Pike,
Sorry, it's broked again... I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b) Gecko/20050218 Firefox/1.0+ (MOOX M2)
Hi Pike,
Sorry!!!! False alarm!!! I didn't test in a new, fresh profile... It works, of course!
Thanks
Bird
The one feature I really missed in Firefox. Very essential. Great extension, flawless!
I like ur extensions especially session saver by u and rue this one is Cool 2. Is there any compatiblity issues?
@Gorund
I'm not too sure about compatibility, I haven't heard about any problems though.
Unable to install Clone Window -- when I click on the link, nothing happens. I'm using Windows XP and Firefox 1.0.1. I recently installed it on a Windows 98 SE system and had no problem. Is there another way to install it? Thanks.
@Geoff
You could try right-clicking the install link and using "Save Link As", then when the file has downloaded drag it to a Firefox window.
Hi Pike
I was referred to your extenstion when questioning the behavior of New vs Home and how they should not necessarily be taken to mean identical actions; see MozillaZine: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=1332717#1332717
But I do have one request/refinement, if possible: can 'Clone Window' leave the cursor in the URL/locations field, ready to accept typing, when a New EMPTY window or New EMPT tab is requested? So I can type or paste into the appropriate field immediately.
As it is now, unless I manually move the cursor and click the URL/Location field OR remember to hit Tab first, any typing I do is simply lost. A small thing, but I think it would benefit the Clone Window extension to not have to do these "extra" manipulations, just to get to where the cursor should be to type something or paste something in. Thanks.
@Erv Edge,
I'll try to look into this after the weekend. Currently for me the cursor is placed in the URL bar after opening a blank tab but not after opening a blank window, from your post it sounds like on your system it doesn't work in either tabs or windows, is that correct?
You really need to fix the bug that when you click on the install it does nothing. I'm just glad there was stuff in the comments to help.
@Steve
It's a link, how exactly do you suggest I "fix" it?

Very nice. Simple to configure and use. I've been looking for an extension like this that can configure/override the browser's default 'New Tab' and 'New Window' behavior. Also happy to see that it can clone page zoom, scroll, browse history, and form contents.
Being able to duplicate the current tab with CTRL+N or 'New Tab' button/command convinced me to switchover from a similar extension, named Duplicate Tab. Only thing I miss are all its options: individually enable/disable cloning of scroll position, zoom, back/fwd browse history; individually set amount of Back and Forward history to retain.
I've also experienced only blank tabs opening when choosing 'New Tab' from the tab's context menu. Haven't had any problems with cloning into new tab via File menu, New Tab button, and CTRL+N (w/ New Win key clones tab enabled).
For those using the extension "Tabbrowser Preferences", you should turn off the User Interface option to show 'New Tab' button in the tab bar. It doesn't work with this extension, but does with the browser's default 'New Tab' button.
If you really want to put the 'New Tab' button on either side of the tab bar, then use the extension "Toolbar Enhancements".
