Hello! Could there be an incompatibility with Clone Window and Firefox 1.5.0.3 (on WinXP)?
I've gone to the CW Extension configuration page and changed the setting for "New Tab command should open" from "Default" to "Cloned Tab", as I do on every FF installation I do.
However, on two machines I've just installed FF 1.5.0.3 on, the change in the setting will only last as long as the session. Close FF completely, restart it, and the setting has reverted back to "Default". (Currently I'm finding this happening on a PC with XP Pro SP2 reinstalled just yesterday).
Hope there's a fix for it - I miss my cloned tabs! Thanks for an excellent extension.
@Motley Fool
So do other settings stick between sessions i.e. other Clone Window settings or settings from other extensions or from Firefox itself?
Where do I save the file to make it work?
At the moment when I press Ctrl+N it brings up my home page instead of the current page I'm on in FireFox. I want it to clone the window when I press Ctrl+N but I don't really know how.
@CB
Just drag the file onto a Firefox window to install it.
Hello, and thanks for this excellent extension! It satisfies my desire to have a multiple-tab home page load on the first new window, while subsequent windows are kept empty.
But today I noticed a "bug" in this behavior: If a non-browser window is in front (Extensions or Themes, for example) and I create a new window, it loads the home page tabs.
I realize this might make sense, since Clone Window's purpose first and foremost is to clone the front window, but if the front window is a non-browser window, it might make more sense to look at the frontmost window that is a standard browser window.
@Travholt
Thanks for the report, I'm not doing much extension work at the moment but next time I do I'll look into that.
Brilliant! This used to be THE most irritating thing about the otherwise so wonderful Firefox! Just installed it, so I don't know if it works all the time, but it look promissing! Cheers!
Wonderful extension! I've been using it in Firefox for quite a while. It adds to Firefox the only behavior that I missed from IE.
I always check the "New Window key should open a cloned tab" box in the prefs cause I like that behavior. I recently upgraded to Firefox 2.0 on my mac, and the new window key always opens a new window instead of a new tab. When running Firefox 2.0 on my Windows XP box it works fine.
@GM
I don't have a Mac so I'm afraid I can't help you. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure your Mac is running the latest version of Clone Window.
Just upgraded to Firefox 2.0 on WinXP. When I used to open a new tab by clicking on a link with the middle mouse button, this extension copied the history to the new tab as well. On Firefox 2.0, this doesn't seem to work. Am I missing something?
Thanks, and thanks for this extension! It's been a lifesaver for years :)
@Mike
> Am I missing something?
Yes, I think you're thanking the wrong extension author, this extension has never done what you've described! :)
OK, thanks Pike. I know it wasn't another extension. I'll have to make sure that was the behavior when I install the 1.5 standalone.
I'd like to get Clone Window working with FireFox 2.0, and I note that its history on this site shows that 0.2.8 is suitable for FF2.
But when I click FF2\Tools\Add-ons\Clone Window 0.2.6 (listed as being incompatible with FF2 after I upgraded from FF1.5) and hit the 'Find Updates' button at bottom, it comes back with 'No updates were found'.
Advice please :--))
@Porty
Click the "Install Clone Window 0.2.8" link above.
I'm a big fan of this extension, but think it's missing one thing--the ability to create a new tab or window with the cloned history but still blank! I use a lot of AJAX type sites which are slowish to load, and would like to load a blank window or tab sometimes but keep the history intact.
Thanks. I managed to get 0.2.8 working back when I asked (December 06?) but NOW I'm trying to install this version on another PC and I'm getting an error (download -228 if I recall correctly)
Is it currently unavailable/
@Porty
I just tried it and it's working OK here. I have occasionally seen this problem reported though, I usually recommend that they clear their cache* and try again but I don't know if that ever helps.

Pikey, you are tops, my man. I have been wanting this ability forever. Came across your extension today, installed 0.2.8, and I'm loving it. Amazing to me that this is not a configurable option native to FF, but thanks to you, we now have a way!
ff 2.0.0.x doesn't like this extension!! :(
the alternative: "duplicate tab" extension sucks. can u make this work with FF version 2 pls?

Makes perfect sense to me. And thanks for the pointer on getting the source (just learning about Firefox development). Using your well commented (thanks) extension, Tab History, and Duplicate Tab I should have plenty of examples to write my own extension for this.
Thanks,
