The 'Clear Fields' extension doesn't play well with the 'SearchWP' extension:
http://legege.com/en/mozilla/searchwp

Using 'Clear Fields' with 'SearchWP' will create 'SearchWP' buttons from the contents of the cleared search box. The 'Search Button' extension doesn't have this flaw.

I've moved all the comments made since I announced the death of Search Button and Web Search Plus to this thread.

If people want to list alternatives here then please do so, the information from David in comment #20 should make a good start (also see my comments #3 and #8).

could you make an extension that has a go button with left, middle, and right click functionality

OK, maybe I can live without the Search Button extension, but only if someone can answer me this question:

In FF2, how can I control what action takes place when I press Enter on the search bar? Can I configure it to search in a new background tab like Search Button allows me to configure?

#25 anonymous Sunday, 24th December 2006

Why not will be actualize the search button for new firefox?

#26 Daniel Wednesday, 27th December 2006

Is there a code I can use in UserChrome.css to make Firefox search in a new background tab when I press enter in the search bar?

#27 Pike Thursday, 28th December 2006

@Daniel

I don't know of a way to open a background tab when pressing enter (you can open a foreground tab by setting browser.search.openintab to true in about:config). It's possible that one of the tabbing extensions (e.g. Tab Mix Plus) might give you more control but I haven't tried).

@Joe
>>* Right Button: Clear Search Bar.
>>* Easier to click (more width).
>>* Search button settings.
>>* Search icon settings.

>>Please don't stop development.

I NEED these functions! Please!!

Can you teach me how to modify the Search-Icon that when I click mouse-right-button on it, can clear the Search-Input-field?

#30 Greg Wednesday, 25th April 2007

Please update Search Button for Fx 2.0+

Allowing the user to open the search result in a new window or tab as well as clearing the search box makes it superior to the default.

Thanks

Why is Session Saver marked obsolete? It seems to work fine in Firefox 2, albeit with only a couple of customizable options.

#32 Pike Thursday, 5th July 2007

@Chris

Yes, it still works but I moved it to obsolete because Fx2 can restore your last session without an extension (go to "Tools->Options->Main->When Firefox starts: Show my windows and tabs from last time").

(Blushing) Noob's question : have Firefox 1.0.smthg.

Used to have your marvellous SessionSaver with that great browser Firebird , but due to a prebllem had to start all over and must reinstall extensions.
(I do not want or need FF 2)

Can't remember : How do I install your xpi-based extensions to this Firefox 1.0.7 ?

Thanks for everything you gave us !

A lot of people don't spot that bar, so you're not alone! :)
