Popup Allow
Version 0.2.6
Install
Description
Temporarily allows popup windows to be opened while the Caps Lock key or the Insert key is held down.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
1. Why don't you use Ctrl, Shift, or Alt as the allow key?
Firefox already makes use of all three modifier keys (Ctrl opens a link in a new tab, Shift opens a link in a new window, Alt downloads a link).
2. How do I change the popup allow key?
Go to Tools->Add-ons->Extensions->Popup Allow->Options, there you can add a custom allow key.

0.2.1
- You can now set the custom allow key in the extension's Options dialog.
- The popup opener menu is no longer shown in newer builds (as these builds come with their own popup opener).
- Removed the automatic
install.rdfupdate link due to bandwidth constraints, from now on you'll have to manually check for updates.
0.2

- The Insert key now disables popup blocking as well as the Caps Lock key.
- You can now create a custom allow key by setting the pref popupallow.allow_key to the numeric code of the key you want to use (all of the key codes can be found in nsIDOMKeyEvent.idl in the Mozilla source code).
0.1
- Initial Release.
Known Issues
- Clicking the blocked popup icon sometimes opens the wrong window, if anyone reproduces this problem please send me the full URL of the page it occured on.
- Popup Allow cannot open popups generated when a page is unloaded.

@Henrik
Looks like the XPCOM interface I was using has been removed. I'll try to find an alternative but I might not have a chance to look until next week.
@Henrik
Sorry I still haven't updated this yet for the nightlies, it *is* on my todo list I just don't seem to find the time to get round to it, hopefully soon.
good extension.. but we badly need to put other keys like control/alt/shift.. not only those you allow us.
It would be nice, when you disable popup blocking for all the time when key is activated - lets say scroll lock - always when scroll lock LED shine, blocker would be off :)
thx
@Henrik
I've finally fixed Popup Allow on 1.0+ and above nightly builds. It's been 7 months since I promised it so I doubt you'll ever see this message, but on the off-chance, sorry for the delay (I'll skip the excuses).

Good extension, sorry, great extension, but as Gabriel said: it would be a lot better if we could be able to define our own "allow pop-up" keys. Caps Lock and Insert are just the worst keys to use. If you press Caps Lock, Caps Lock is enabled. No need for that. Same with Insert. Ctrl key is just the best to use, just like in IE (that's the only thing good abou IE i think). But the idea of the extension is great. I'm glad i've found it.
I would like to second that request, as I would have installed this if it were not for the strange choice of keys.
Please make the key CTRL or provide an option to set our own.
Thankyou for your other great extensions :)
just press ALT while loading a page.
no need for an extension !
hello sa parle pas le french ici
I lke this concept but i WOULD LOVE IT IF there was an option (hotkey?) to bypass XPI blocking, i mean if i want to install an extension pressing a key and avoiding the usal firefox blocking it until i add it to safe "white list".
i just dont see why i need to add a site to my white list in order to insall one extension ONCE! i dont want to add the site just let me insall it this time, that feature would be great.
Great to have a way for a one-time pop-up.
1. Why is this not installable from addons.Mozilla.org site. It's not even listed there! Which makes it a suspect requiring extra research to check if it's safe!
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/search?q=Popup+Allow&cat=all&as=true&vfuz=true&appid=1&lver=any&hver=any&atype=0&pid=0&lup=&pp=100&sort=
2. Why not to use the same key as in IE:
i.e.: CTRL+ALT+click
It helps users to have the same UI whenever possible.
(Different is justified only if it adds useful functionality)
@Momus
1. I don't really have the energy to deal with that site I'm afraid, I understand that that's less than ideal for which I apologise.
2. Because I've been using Firefox for 6.5 years and was not even aware there was such a shortcut in IE, let alone what it was. :)
*Sigh* It doesn't work for me. I frequently arrive at sites with embedded Youtube videos, but I'd rather view the video on Youtube so that I can see the comments. If I click on the flashplayer window's Youtube button to do this, the popup blocker prevents it. What's more, some oddity of flasplayer-generated popups means that when you hit "preferences" on the yellow bar, the "show xxxxxxx.html" option isn't there. I don't want to disable the popup blocker. I tried this addon, but it doesn't work for flashplayer-generated popups -- firefox still blocks them and shows the yellow bar. (It does work on popups generated by the usual Javascript.)
