Count is not showing up on status bar.. What is wrong?

#2 Pike Wednesday, 26th May 2004

Oldy,

Try switching to the default theme then visiting:

http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest1.html

The popup count from that page should show up on the left hand end of the status bar next to the popup icon (and hovering over the icon with your mouse will show a tooltip with the all-time total).

I've added the <-- --> butttons to the defuault theme. Wouldn't want to remove them just to get the popup counter.
In the popuptest I can see the icon in the bottom left part of my browser. Why not now?

#4 Pike Tuesday, 8th June 2004

Scott,

The popup count only appears when a popup has been blocked, the rest of the time it is not visible. Also there are a couple of themes that just don't have the right image (at least there were last time I tested, they may have been fixed since then).

Popup count extension installation in Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7) Gecko/20040614 Firefox/0.9 causes mozill to not move past "please wait extension installing" after restart.

#6 Pike Wednesday, 16th June 2004

Javier,

No this is a bug in Firefox 0.9, any extension installation can trigger that message. To fix it you can start Firefox in safe mode (there should be a option in the Start menu to do that) then uninstall the extension, restart Firefox then reinstall the extension.

Great page, great extensions. Thanks very much for your time and effort. Only critisism I have is that it would be nice to see the release date associate with the version number for each extension. Again, thanks!

#10 jae Saturday, 19th June 2004

doesn't work for me - i tried going to the popup page using the default theme, but i don't see any information at the bottom of the screen

#11 Pike Saturday, 19th June 2004

jae,

Do you get the popup icon in the bottom left of the status bar after visiting a page like http://www.popuptest.com/popuptest1.html, does it appear if you disable the extension? The count should appear to the right of that icon, and the all time total should be in the icon's tooltip.

#12 jae Sunday, 20th June 2004

nope - tried everything suggested and nothing appears in the status bar.

#13 Pike Monday, 21st June 2004

I'm stumped jae, maybe there is an extension conflict, do you have any others installed?

#14 jae Monday, 21st June 2004

ok - on a fresh install of firefox, installing popup count as the first plugin shows me the window.

i'll start adding them in one at a time now to see which one causes the conflict and post back.

#15 jae Monday, 21st June 2004

ok - looks like it's an extension conflict. the smooth resize patch for tabbrowser extensions (http://white.sakura.ne.jp/~piro/xul/_tabextensions.html.en) is causing the problem.

#16 Pike Tuesday, 22nd June 2004

jae,

OK jae, I'm not sure there's really much I can do about it, but I'll try to take a look sometime, thanks for the info.

The popup count in the status bar disappears when going to a secure site. It is replaced by a lock.

#18 brian Wednesday, 23rd June 2004

when i swap from showing the popups in the status bar to tooltip, I don't get a tooltup when I go back to the site which has the popup.

#19 Pike Wednesday, 23rd June 2004

brian,

When you say the popup count disappears when going to a secure site, do you mean just the count disappears, or that both the count and the icon disappear? If it is the first one then it's probably a bug if it's the second then it probably isn't.

#20 brian Wednesday, 23rd June 2004

The popup count and icon are replaced by the lock icon(denoting secure site). Checkout www.stgeorge.com.au and for online services, select internet banking and click logon).

One of the things I like about this extension is the ability to use the feature of clicking on the icon and finding out the address of the site to be added to allowed web sites for popups. For the example above, the site address for this popup is different to the site address that initiated the popup i.e. www.stgeorge.com.au -> ibank.stgeorge.com.au.
