I would like to see Popup Count add an automatically opened menu (much like Avant Browse does, I love it's behaviour here) listing each of the popup window URLs, and allow the user to individually select a window they wish to open, or select "Open All Blocked Popups".

#83 Pike Thursday, 3rd November 2005

@Arturo

I'll look into that sometime in the next week or so, however it may be impossible to work around.

@Madball

Firefox already has the ability to open individual blocked popups, just click the bar that appears at the top of the page when a popup is blocked and you'll see the options.

#84 Madball Friday, 4th November 2005

@Pike

Yes I am aware of that. Avant Browser has a cool option where a small window slides into the lower right hand corner listing the popup URLs blocked (not the titles) and remains there for around 5 seconds or so for you to click. I really don't like the Firefox standard "click here to see a list of blocked URLs, then click again to open one of them". If I was a programmer I would modify this behaviour, but alas, I'm left to begging here ;)

#85 Matt Friday, 4th November 2005

Just to throw in my opinion (<everybody groans>), I don't want a small popup on the corner of the screen whenever a popup is blocked. :P

#86 Madball Saturday, 5th November 2005

@ Matt

;) That's why I wrote "optional" ;)

#87 Matt Saturday, 5th November 2005

Did not. You just said Avant has the option. :P But okay. :) As an optional feature, I wouldn't use it, but there's nothing wrong with having optional features that a few people want, unless there are just a huge number of them...

#88 Pike Saturday, 5th November 2005

@Madball

I see, I don't plan to add anything like that, sorry. However, modifying Popup Count to add that feature would probably be a first easy step into extension writing if you wanted to learn...

I just installed Firefox 1.5 RC1 into a clean profile and installed popup count. i used the always on option, but it has problems displaying the popup icon. it just says zero (which is right). when opening the browser, it seems to be chance whether the icon will show or not. and as far as i can tell, the icon has never shown up when i've opened multiple windows. this is all on the default theme.

#90 Pike Wednesday, 9th November 2005

@Arturo

Sorry for the delay I've looked into this. What happens is that NoScript blocks the script on the page which opens the popups, so from Popup Count's point of view it never even sees that the page tried to open a popup. I'm afraid I really can't see a way around this at the moment so you'll probably have to live without Popup Count (though it will still work on any pages where you've told NoScript to allow scripts).

@Jake

I'm unable to reproduce this at the moment, what platform/OS are you using? Also have you changed any settings or installed anything into Firefox or is it truly a clean profile? It really doesn't suprise me that the "always display" option might break for someone, it uses a pretty dodgy hack to display the icon (to workaround problems with non-default themes).

#91 Jake Friday, 11th November 2005

i'm using windows xp sp2. i used the profile manager to create a new profile, then i installed popup count. restarted firefox, set it to always display popups, restarted again, opened a second window, and the icon didn't display. short of doing a compete reinstall of firefox, i'm not going to go any farther with testing on new profiles and such.

since my last post i've copied the image used by firefox for the popup blocker from my firefox directory and placed it in my chrome folder next to my userchrome (i'm a noob, so i don't know how to call it using a chrome:// path). then i added the following code in my userchrome, which fixed the problem for me.

#page-report-button {
list-style-image:url("info.png") !important;
}

i think there's something inherently weird with the popup blocker. i put the following code into the userchrome of a brand new profile with no extensions, and it forced the popup blocker to display. however, the icon was still not there. there was just a blank square in the status bar that you could click on to get popup options.

#page-report-button {
display: -moz-box !important;
}

#92 Jake Sunday, 13th November 2005

found the chrome command for the icon. the cap for the info.png is necessary. my current code is below. i guess anyone who has similar problems with the default theme can use this.

#page-report-button {
list-style-image:url("chrome://browser/skin/Info.png") !important;
}

#93 Pike Monday, 14th November 2005

@Jake

Thanks for the further info, I'll take another look. Perhaps if I still can't reproduce the problem I could supply a version of Popup Count that logs what's happening for you to test with?

#94 Jake Wednesday, 16th November 2005

sure, why not. i'd be happy to help out. and my userchrome is so huge it causes power shortages when i start firefox, so i'd encourage anything that pares it down. :P

#95 Pike Tuesday, 22nd November 2005

@Jake

Probably won't be able to get to this for at least another week or so, sorry I'm a slacker.

#96 Jake Saturday, 26th November 2005

i'm in no hurry. i too subscribe to the slacker creed.

#97 Pike Wednesday, 30th November 2005

@Jake

I found out why I couldn't see the problem (so no need for debug builds), I had the XUL cache disabled, when I re-enabled it the problem appeared. I think this might be a bug in Fx itself, I'll try to find a workaround.

#98 Pike Friday, 9th December 2005

@Jake

You've probably long since given up hope, but if you do read this then please try installing Popup Count 0.3.3 which (I think) should fix the icon problem.

#99 Matt Saturday, 10th December 2005

Hey, new version! In very little testing, it's working fine. :)

#100 Jake Tuesday, 13th December 2005

I just installed it and it worked fine. Thanks for the fix, and thanks for being so patient with it. Now only if some major companies would have the same end user support... *begins cursing apple*
