Create Shortcut
Version 0.3.6
Install
Description
Implements the Netscape Navigator 4 Create Shortcut menu item in Firefox. To create a shortcut to the current page bring up the context menu (usually done by right-clicking) and choose Create Shortcut. Selecting the menu item displays a dialog box that allows the creation of a shortcut to the current page/link on your desktop.
Note: This extension is currently for Microsoft Windows only, see the Deskcut extension for a cross-platform alternative.

prefs.jsoruser.jsyou must use double backslashes, e.g. c:\\windows\\favorites). - Added a Brazilian Portuguese (pt-BR) locale, contributed by Fernando Pereira Silveira.
- Added a German (de-DE) locale, contributed by Patrick Ruh.

- Polish: Append an ellipsis to the Create Shortcut menu entry when the shortcut prompt is enabled.

Ok. Thanks Pike. You extension should be in the addons mozilla site. You should submit your extension to them because your extension is very useful and i think many people dont't know it.
Thanks to you too
A really nice Extension, but I miss an Option to change the directory, so that I can save links not only on the Desktop.

Many thanks Pike for the Create Shortcut extension for Firefox !!
I just hope the other extensions are updated for FF 3.5 soon too...
@Senlac_Hill
Please see the red box at the top of this page.
Works GREAT, love it. so easy to use.
recommend it for sure.
it works well, is fast and small footprint. would be MUCH better if it allowed the destination folder to be selected rather than always going to the desktop.
@redcrow
Thanks.
See the second bullet in the 0.3 release history above for information on changing the folder.
@ Pike
Yes, I saw that bullet, thanks for mentioning it, but by selecting the folder, I mean to be able to select it 'on the fly' rather than changing the sole destination - ie, save shortcuts just like any file, in any folder on the network. I downloaded it yesterday and got rid of the Deskcut extension as this is better, but Deskcut does allow destination to be chosen. Your extension would be close to perfect if destinations could be chosen on the fly. Keep up the good work.
This is a great idea, and I have been using Create Shortcut for quite a while, but I frequently find it difficult to locate a place on a page where the appropriate context menu will pop up. For this reason, I would prefer it if Create Shortcut worked from the file menu. I think the best scenario might be to allow the user to choose where it works from, with the option of both places.
@tyro52
It sounds like you might be hitting a bug or an incompatibility, the menu should appear everywhere on the page (other than inside flash/java). Is there a specific page where this problem occurs?
Thanks! I was using Deskcut (whose site referred me to you), but I don't WANT it to keep asking me where to save the shortcut - I'm glad yours defaults to the desktop! Others who want that option might prefer Deskcut.
Hello Pikey. i tried Firefox 3.6 RC1 and it's incompatible with it. ^_^
@DragonZilla
I probably won't have a chance to update my extensions until next week (or maybe the end of this week). In the meantime you should be able to workaround it with the following about:config preference:
Thanks Pike
@DragonZilla
If you reinstall the extension from the link above it should now work in Firefox 3.6 (you don't need to uninstall the current one first).
Many thanks. the second option works fine on the 3.6 final version ;)

@DragonZilla
I've updated the extension, please reinstall it from this page and retest it (you might need to clear your browser cache if it installs the old version again).
Thanks again.
